Memorial Homily for 1LT Tyler Parten

11 September 2009

By far the single most shaping event in my life as a Chaplain and Believer in Christ, was memorializing a great friend and brother in Christ, Tyler Edward Parten. The Sunday prior to him arriving in the glorious presence of His Lord, we planned for him to begin leading worship in Chapel, his idea. The relief that I felt to have someone assisting in ministry to the Destroyers of 3-61CAV was eclipsed by the grief felt by our entire community. I cried over him in the belly of the C-130 which would give him his final trip home. After the final respects had been paid to him by all in attendance to the Ramp Ceremony at Bagram, CH(LTC) Matt Goff put his arm around me, as I knelt and repeated the chorus from Revelation Song, the last song that Tyler praised His Father with, before he entered in to praise Him for eternity:

"Holy, Holy, Holy
Is the Lord God Almighty
Who was, and is, and is to come, yeah
With all creation I sing:
Praise to the King of Kings!
You are my everything,
And – I - will - adore You!"
